Fluenz Mandarin![]() Fluenz Mandarin is a premium language learning program, that is designed to help you learn Mandarin fluently in the shortest amount of time possible. It was designed specifically to teach people that already understand English Mandarin Chinese in a way that makes the most sense to them, based on the patterns and structure of the English Language. It is a digital course that you take using your home computer, that makes significant use of video, audio and images to stimulate your senses when learning. The program itself consists of 45 sessions of learning that can take up to 2 hours each. It is a very comprehensive course, and is actually designed to take its users to fluency, not merely teach them a few basic phrases. Fluenz Mandarin claims its effectiveness by recreating a traditional learning platform, such as a small classroom or private tuition. In fact, the software includes an “on-screen” teacher named Sonia Gill, that actually explains things to you as though you are in her classroom. She herself learned Mandarin from scratch having spoken only English, and is therefore is in a good position to understand your points of difficulty as an English speaker. Fluenz is different compared to Rosetta Stone. In fact, they take almost opposite approaches to learning Mandarin. Rosetta Stone tries to avoid English altogether, whereas Fluenz seeks to leverage English to learn Mandarin. By this they mean that you can learn Mandarin faster by studying it with reference to principles that may be similar or distinct to English. In any event, Fluenz operates on the assumption that it is easier to learn Mandarin by harnessing the fact that one already speaks English and acknowledging this, in comparison, the Rosetta Stone approach which avoids your native language altogether and focuses on dynamic immersion.
